XIT Rodeo

Amid the 1980’s Kevin Hampton was young and growing up in the agriculture world. His father and mother, C.W and Marlyn Hampton, were cattle ranchers in the small town of Chewy, Oklahoma. Kevin thoroughly enjoyed roping and showing animals at the fairs, including many Grand Champions. In the local area was a Professional Stock Contractor who he started working for. As time went on Kevin had the chance to buy another contractor out and build his own indoor arena, the Chewy Dome. For years Kevin produced A.C.R.A and I.P.R.A rodeos with great success. His accomplishments included 22 consecutive years of IPRA Stock Contractor of the Year titles, several Bucking Stock of the Year (most notably #134 Drama Queen the 4x Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year), and dozens of Animals of the Finals.

In the summer of 2018 the entire Hampton family decided it was time to grow in the business with the purchase of Pete Carr’s Classic Pro Rodeo. The card was carried out by Carr crew for the remainder of that year and the NFR. The first PRCA rodeo the Hampton’s attended was the Leah County Fair and Rodeo. Taos Muncy won the Saddle Bronc Riding on #134 Drama Queen.  The next big win for the Hampton’s was Riggin Smith on #63N Desert Stomper at the Old Fort Days Rodeo in Fort Smith, Arkansas. These were the best accomplishments the Hampton family could have asked for while beginning their Pro Rodeo career. Close friends, Frontier Rodeo Company, offered to partner on the XIT Rodeo and Reunion. This would become the first Pro Rodeo the Hamptons produced. Later that year, in 2019, the committee at Jim Shoulders Living Legends rodeo decided to join the transition with them being the first of their committees to switch associations and be PRCA.

With sub contracting jobs at Fort Smith, Arkansas; Weatherford, Texas; San Angelo, Texas; and Pecos, Texas the Hampton’s were able to send animals to their first Circuit Finals in Davie, Florida. That same year, Hacksaw Ridge, purchased from Scott Burruss of Stace Smith Pro Rodeo, went to the NFR making a historic moment for the KH brand. After that, the stories keep writing themselves as time goes on. 2020 brought high times with the return to Fort Worth and San Angelo. At San Angelo, 2X World Champion Bronc Rider Zeke Thurston was 90 points on #821 Rising Tide.

Kenney was born and raised in small town America where his family have resided for many generations, in Southwest Missouri. There, the priorities were, family, church, hunting & fishing, sports, agriculture, horses, cattle, etc.

Kenney’s interest in rodeo came young & he started competing in high school, into college while simultaneously playing music in a country band. Ironically, at a local rodeo in 1995, the announcer ‘no showed’ and Kenney reluctantly filled in to help, and from there, his career began. Working many different rodeos over the next few years & becoming the rodeo coach at Missouri Valley College, Kenney received his PRCA Pro Rodeo Announcer Card in 2000 (at 25 yrs old) and he’s worked between 75-100 performances annually ever since. Now a PRCA Gold Card Holder, Kenney maintains a packed schedule of PRCA Rodeo’s across the US.

Traveling literally from both oceans to both borders every year and nearly every midwestern state in between, his love for rodeo & the respect for rodeo fans is stronger today than ever.

With wife Amanda & now 9 yr old son Kolter, they still reside in Southwest MO., in the Stockton Lake area on their working cattle ranch enjoying the ranch & rodeo life.

“2025 will mark my 30th year on the road. I realize that I’m very fortunate to be able to do this for a living & we’ll forever be indebted to many folks that have helped us along the way. We’ve made some amazing, life long friendships & an endless list of memories on the rodeo trail.

God blessed me with a wonderful wife & son.  Amanda appreciates & respects this lifestyle, she’s our rock & the reason we were able to continue our career & start a family at the same time. We have a lot of ‘moving parts’ at home with the ranch, cattle, our son Kolter, etc., and she holds it all together.

This wonderful life wouldn’t be possible without all those who’ve helped us through the years, the list is long. Seeing & hearing these awesome rodeo fans love the sport as much as I do, still lights my fire! We’ve loved it since day one and still love it today. We’re beyond grateful & humbled by it all.” Says Kenney.

Wil Moorhead grew up on the production side of the rodeo industry. A rodeo announcer’s son, he learned about sound and music early on before taking it out on his own and starting a career. He worked his way through college at Auburn University and vet school at Mississippi State as music director for rodeos around the Southeast and Texas.

He then practiced medicine for 2 full years as a veterinary intern and subsequently staff veterinarian at an equine referral hospital in central Texas. 2021 marked a change and rodeo became the focus.

With the highest quality line array equipment, Moorhead now brings a lifetime of rodeo production along with 6 years of TV audio production for the SEC Network and ESPN to over 30 events a year. He served as music director for the Southeastern Circuit Finals in 2019 and the Texas Circuit Finals in 2023. He is a part of great storied rodeos around the country, from the Old Fort Days Rodeo to Ogden Pioneer Days, the Black Hills Roundup, Vernal’s Dinosaur Roundup, and the Kimes Ranch Million Dollar Breakaway.

Wil is so very grateful for the support of his family and the time they get to share traveling together. His wife, Angela, is also a veterinarian and their beautiful daughter, Taylor Mae, will be 2 years old next January. Most of all, Moorhead is proud to call Dalhart and the XIT home for a week each August since 2023!
